Apprehensions dispelled as Colombia’s peace negotiations resume
The Colombian peace negotiations are back on track. After two meetings on 2 and 3 December the two sides announced the schedule for the resump- tion of talks, plus a couple of encouraging agreements, one on ‘de-escalating’ the conflict, the other on setting up a mechanism to help solve crises like that created by the seizure of Brigadier General Rubén Darío Alzate by the Fuerzas Armadas Revolucionarias de Colombia (Farc) and President Juan Manuel Santos’s suspension of the negotiations.
