Chile’s Bachelet faces defining challenges
with a flourish by signing a bill to create a state-run pension fund as an alternative to the country’s private pension funds (AFPs). Bachelet said that she had completed 91% of the 56 goals she undertook to carry out during this traditional honeymoon period as a signal of her government’s intent to start as it means to go on with significant structural changes to reduce socio-economic inequality in Chile and increase public participa- tion. But it was what happened shortly after those first 100 days which will have the biggest impact on her legacy, involving Chile’s indigenous and education reform.
