To boost productivity, Latin American economies need a new wave of high growth, innovative companies, many of which will also be hi-tech enterprises. The aim of this month's Canning Paper and briefing is to look at the existing Latin American business cultures, and the degree to which they support, encourage or restrict the emergence of the next generation of companies.
At the briefing we will address how key macro factors impact on technology and innovation in the region - such as general stability and financial health of the economy, quality of education systems, availability of high-speed internet connections, competitive logistics and energy costs. We will also look at the impact of key micro factors, 'close focus' country specific issues,such as the availability of venture capital and financial support, intellectual property and a range of legal, bureaucratic and tax requirements.
We will also look at some case studies of successful innovators from Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, Chile, and Mexico to see whether common themes can be found in their stories.
