Chile 2017: What's Next For The Country?

On 19th November, Chileans went to the polls to elect a new president. With no single candidate garnering over 50% of the vote, former president (2010-2014) Sebastian Piñera will now face centre-left candidate Alejandro Guillier in the run-off on 17th December.

According to the latest count, Piñera, who was a favourite in the pre-election polls, won 36.64% of the vote. Guillier, who was backed by the majority of the ruling Nueva Mayoría coalition, got 22.70% of the vote.

This event will be an opportunity to look over the results of the 19th November election, and dissect what they mean for the second round, as well as their wider implications for Chile, and Latin America as a whole.
