Why Does Latin America Matter?

'Why does Latin America matter?' asks The Royal Institute Elcano, a leading Spanish International Relations think-tank, in its latest report. Targeting European institutions, governments, media and public opinion, the paper aims to paint a complete picture of Latin America, the opportunities that it offers and its place in the world, outlining why a closer bilateral relationship with the EU would benefit both regions on a number of levels. As the future of the United States' relationship with its southern neighbours hangs in the air, and as the UK prepares to leave the European Union, Elcano's paper explains why Latin America is and will continue to be a relevant partner for Europe.

Canning House is delighted to welcome representatives from The Royal Institute Elcano to present the report and its findings. Charles Powell, Director of Elcano, will introduce the report and explain the origins of the project. Carlos Malamud, Senior Analyst for Latin America at Elcano and coordinator of the report, will then broadly present the paper's contents. This will be followed by a Q&A and opportunity for discussion with the audience. The event will be chaired by Robert Capurro, Canning House CEO.
