Trump's First 100 Days: How Has It Affected Latin America?

President Donald Trump's first 100 days in many ways have gone as expected - many of his pre-election promises have been attempted, if not realised, and some have been parked at least for the time being. His standpoint on the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA), a trade bloc between Canada, Mexico and the United States that has been in place since 1994, has not wavered much, however. He was recently quoted as saying that if he did achieve a "fair deal" in the re-negotiation of NAFTA, it would be terminated. This event will also look at how the Trump presidency up until now has affected Latin America as a whole, and how future scenarios could play out. The president's rejection of the Paris Climate Change Agreement will undoubtedly be another talking point.

The Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU) has recently released a report on this topic entitled, 'Good neighbour gone bad: Policy risks for Mexico and Latin America under Trump', and its author, analyst Rodrigo Aguilera, will be speaking at this event that will analyse the potential Trump effect on NAFTA, Mexico and Latin America. We are also delighted to welcome Earl Fry, Professor of Political Science at Brigham Young University and currently research professor at BYU’s London Centre, and Jeronimo Mohar from Mexican political consultancy, Grupo Atalaya, to participate.
