Update on Human Rights in Venezuela with Special Guest Luis Almagro, Secretary General of the OAS

  • Committee Room 10, House of Commons, Westminster, London SW1A 0AA
  • 4pm

Canning House and the APPG for Venezuela invite Luis Almagro to give an update on human rights in Venezuela.

In the wake of the ongoing crisis in Venezuela, the humanitarian situation in the country continues to deteriorate. A UN Report published in July details human rights violations including extrajudicial killings, human trafficking, torture, food scarcity and severe medicine shortages.

In light of this report, Canning House and the All-Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) for Venezuela have invited Luis Almagro, Secretary General of the Organisation of American States (OAS) to speak with Dra. Tamara Sujú, a human rights lawyer, about what the international community might do to ameliorate the situation.

Welcoming words will be given by Mark Menzies MP, Chair of the APPG for Latin America, and Graham Jones MP, Chair of the APPG for Venezuela. The discussion will be chaired by Baroness Hooper.
