On Monday 28th January, Canning House had the pleasure of meeting with Rosalía Morales Acosta, Pedro Kumamoto and Lucrecia Hernández Mack, all of whom are currently on the Foreign Office’s International Leaders Programme.
Rosalía Morales Acosta is currentlythe Executive Director of NIC Costa Rica. She leads projects related to Internet Governance, Internet Exchange Points, Cybersecurity and Internet policy and infrastructure, among others.
Pedro Kumamoto became the first independent candidate to win a Congress seat in Jalisco, Guadalajara – the second largest city in Mexico. As a legislator, Pedro has promoted several innovative reforms including a bill that would limit the funding available for political parties in non-election years.
Lucrecia Hernández Mack is a researcher and analyst of health policies, systems and services in Guatemala. Lucrecia is a founding member of the Inclusive Health Institute, dedicated to research and developing policy proposals for the country’s public health services and was the Minister of Health of Guatemala between 2016 - 2017.
Their discussion with Cristina Cortes, CEO of Canning House, touched on many aspects of their work, as well as the work Canning House is doing to build bilateral relationships between the UK and Latin America. Of particular interest was Canning House’s upcoming Transparency and Corruption series. All three Leaders agreed improving transparency and strengthening institutions was critical to increasing prosperity in the region.
